Happy Thanksgiving!
I won’t even try to list all that I am thankful for in life so I will share a few grateful moments/things from 2011:
- Biodegradable dog poop bags (high on the list)
- www.Rdio.com & live music
- Keeping the mind and heart open to all challenges that came my way this year - what a year.
- Similar to the above: forward motion
- My baby brother who continues to surprise and inspire me with his resilience, hunger for life and passion for growth and development in all of his various pursuits.
…and the cheese stops here. Hope you all had a good one. Strive to be happy, healthy with a tummy full of great FOOD (always)!

Seared foie gras, soon to be illegal in California (as of 2012). I shed a single tear but remain optimistic in hopes that we’ll find a way to appease both, animal rights activists and gastronomes alike in guaranteeing some sustainable way of creating this delightful, umami-rich delicacy. I love it. Yea, I said it.

Dinner parties with friends often lead to amazing feasts as displayed in this photo. I love my friends, and my tummy would have to agree.

Uni stone pot rice @ En tastes as good as it looks. Creamy, briney, crunchy, umami goodness.

My work team has decided to begin a competition to eat as many items off of The Big Eat 2011 (7x7’s Top 100 SF list). Proud to say that this bourbon Manhattan and Pickled Eggs snack was on the list, and both were tasty (drink was better).

Introducing… the Korean taco!! An eye-opening, incredibly flavorful combination of Korean and Mexican culinary styles. Two layers of dried seaweed serve as the shell, with rice, marinated short ribs, spicy mayo, homemade kimchi and lastly, a garnish of seaweed salad. So good….. so so good.

[Bottega Louie]
Quite possibly one of the best things I ate while in LA this weekend. This thing of beauty right here is an order of portobello mushroom fries, accompanied with a side of garlic pesto dip. Cue hunger pangs.

Photo of my creation mentioned in my previous post: lemon/olive oil pasta (I added shrimp) and the sauteed chard. This may be the best set of new recipes I’ve attempted thus far. The chard was delicious- stems were crunchy but flavorful, leaves not soggy and also very tasty. I am a new fan of chard. The pasta… oh, the pasta. I’ll be making this dish again soon. SO so good and LIGHT!

Ugh… a couple more photos of food in this blog and I should probably rename this whole project to “Jennie is Fat in 2011.” I seriously apologize for the lack of creativity, friends. Though, I will say that this shortrib stew (kalbi jjim) was tender, juicy and seriously worth documenting… yum.
