Photo-a-Day 2011 is now complete.
Though I can’t say that I’m 100% satisfied with the way things have turned out (i.e. taking a photo for each day in real time has proven to be impossible), I am glad to have somewhat seen it through to the end and have learned some proper lessons while doing it.
My project archive is found here:http://injennieous.tumblr.com/archive
Scrolling through this archive is kind of amazing. It’s hard to believe 365 days have gone by but every one of these photos brings me back to the exact time and place… essentially, the moment the shutter snapped. For that reason alone, the year feels complete. This is largely why I took on this project: perhaps if I were to capture/remember at least 365 unique moments of 2011, my year would seem longer.
As far as improving as a photographer, I have mixed feelings. Certainly more comfortable with camera settings and I’ve trained my eye a bit but a lot of my photos from earlier in the year are so much better than the shots from the latter. I was noticeably more inspired for longer periods of time in the first half of 2011. Can’t help that some shots feel contrived, sub-par, etc. etc. but then there are a select few that I can say that I am proud of.
In conclusion, I would highly recommend any persons with interest in photography to take on this project or some other creative project (like a “52 in 52,” more to come on that) that enforces discipline and encourages creativity. Or even just for the sake of having a visual diary of your year.
I could go on but if you’re really interested, ask me.
“52 in 52” is another project I am considering taking on: 52 themes in 52 weeks. I’ve started compiling a list of themes (ranging from broad motifs like b&w to more niche-specifics such as ‘morning’ ‘motion’ and other keyboards). If you have any theme suggestions, please tell me! I’m aiming for a fat list of 100+ and narrowing down to 52 manageable/creative/fun themes. Will probably start this in early spring once I get my new camera.
Until the start of my next project or whenever a random “tumblr worthy” post comes to fruition, thank you followers (friends, acquaintances and yee strangers&bots) for being a part of my year.
Ciao!
*I knew something like this would happen (!!!!) Either there are 364 days in 2011 or my numbering went askew somewhere and I’m not about to go through every single photo and figure it out. My imperfect project now complete with imperfect numbering, haha.
Goodbye for real this time!
Thanks for stopping by.
